FARO Technologies has its origins in the medical field, where co-founders Simon Raab, Ph.D., and Greg Fraser, Ph.D., developed diagnostic and surgical equipment and software for orthopedics, FDA processes and plant certification. Among their proudest accomplishments from that era of the Company’s history are the patents they secured covering computer-aided surgery, including a number licensed to Medtronic for equipment that is fast becoming the standard in the field of neurosurgery. FaroArms and Laser ScanArms are still being employed in orthopedics to capture form data during complex procedures.
